Lost – Meaning of Christmas (and Hallmark)

by Administrator on December 16, 2005

Lost – Meaning of Christmas. Last seen somewhere between Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, and frantic gift buying from zealous merchants. If found, please contact a local church. (Oh, I forgot. Many churches aren’t having services on Christmas this year.)

During my shopping a few days ago, I walked into a Hallmark store to get a Christmas ornament for the tree. I wanted an ornament with some type of Christmas message about the birth of Christ and what that means. Would you believe? That had over a thousand (probably – didn’t count) of these miniature ornaments posted by category, but not a one of them had any religious-themed message. I turned around and left the store, visiting another store in the mall that had several Carlton religious-themed ornaments with a true Christmas message and bought one.

Here’s another point Hallmark should take note off. At this time of year, I’m not likely to wait in a cashier’s line to purchase a single item unless it is a very special gift for a very special person. In other words, Hallmark loses the sale of not only the ornament, but also the sale of any other item I could buy on an impulse decision once I’m in the store. I didn’t take the risk of an impulse purchase – I left the store quickly.

Be sure you keep Christ in your Christmas!
Merry Christmas.
