Media Humanism

Here is a great example of how humanism is creeping into our media.

Hi, dear friends,

You who love Christ should see this information. I chanced to see a bit of Oprah, though I do not watch her program. I saw her introduce the book and “life transformation” program by Eckart Tolle, and I knew him to be a spirituality/religious teacher of anti-Christian, New Age beliefs. It is so much deception. I was appalled, though not a bit surprised, that Oprah, who has to be on the cover of every issue of her magazine, would be immersed in the ancient lie. It is very sad, for her and for the millions of folks who will follow her anywhere.

One of the clips suggests, by stretching meaning around words, that the Presidential candidate Obama may also have faith in the type of religious beliefs Oprah preaches, but I don’t believe that this is accurate about him. He has very openly professed a long-time faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior, and I believe him, as I hope others believe my profession of faith in Christ.

What you can do:
Write to the advertisers that sponsor Oprah Windfrey’s humanistic garbage and tell them you won’t buy their products and why. Then don’t buy their products.

If you read the front page story of the SF Chronicle, you would have read about a female humpback whale who had become entangled in a spider web of crab traps and lines.

She was weighted down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle to stay afloat. She also had hundreds of yards of line rope wrapped around her body, her tail, her torso, and a line tugging in her mouth.

A fisherman spotted her just east of the Farralone Islands (outside the Golden Gate) and radioed an environmental group for help.

Within a few hours, the rescue team arrived and determined that she was so bad off, the only way to save her was to dive in and untangle her.

- a very dangerous proposition.

One slap of the tail could kill a rescuer.

They worked for hours with curved knives and eventually freed her. When she was free, the divers say she swam in what seemed like joyous circles. She then came back to each and every diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently
around–she thanked them. Some said it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives.

The guy who cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the whole time, and he will never be the same.

May you, and all those you love, be so blessed and fortunate to be surrounded by people who will help you get untangled from the things that are binding you. And may you always know the joy of giving and receiving gratitude.

In reality, faith always springs from a relationship. You don’t have faith that it won’t rain for your party tomorrow or to win the lottery. Faith is the result of believing someone. It is an unconscious process of acting on something because we believe someone. If you scheduled that outdoor party tomorrow, it’s because the weatherman said it would not rain. You believed the weatherman. Faith is beyond reason. If we are acting on reason, it isn’t faith.

When I had that GBS, it wasn’t reasonable that I would walk again. The doctors said I would not. I had to step out in faith beyond reason. I had to be a proactive step on my part. And there was a relationship, and it wasn’t with the doctor. It was with God. If I had believed the doctors I would never have walked again.

As I work on my The Illusion book, I came to a chapter on Place, entitled “The Illusion of the Exile”. Most of us live as Exiles, lost to Place. My own city of Portland was started by exiles looking for that lost Garden. Paul Tournier makes an incredible statement in his book A Place for You.

“He who once had the experience of belonging to a place, always finds place for himself afterwards; whereas, he who has been deprived of it searches everywhere in vain.”

When I lost my wife to leukemia some 15 years ago I lost Place. I found Place again in a small group a few days ago. I found Place again eating dinner with a lady a few weeks ago. And last Monday I found Place again watching and listening to a video on YouTube. Want to risk that last one yourself? You may not see the significance there. This generation is a lost generation to what many of us know as the “church”. Only one in ten of this generation is in “church” each week. Yet here are thousands of young people here with their hands raised in praise. Brooke Fraser, the singer, doesn’t appear to be even there. She’s at some other Place. You can follow the blogs from this event and hear what happened to the youth who were there. Or you can follow the ministry of Brooke on YouTube and see more of her heart. She walks the talk.

I like to talk about change, and during the next few months you will see some changes here I think you’ll like. Here are some of these you can expect to see:

• Better usability, such as interactive buttons.
• The addition of professional graphics
• The updating of resources
• Additional cool content from Carl.

The changes will be slow and over time. I stay very busy with clients and this site is a ministry of love and calling. My financial resources limit what I can do in a given time frame. We need a new and faster computer as well as additional financial support to put more time here. We pray for that!

During the last year I lost a great friend and mentor to cancer, and today I have three other friends battling major diseases for their life. Man was created by God in the Garden free of disease, and disease entered the world when Man disobeyed God and ate of the forbidden tree. Jesus had authority over sin, and could bring healing to all he met. I’m always astonished by the power of prayer and healing in many leaders of the past century that have now gone on to Glory. Jesus healed all that came to him, but because of sin in the world they all eventually went on to Glory.

Here are our favorite books from the past year, with all of them having to do with prayer and healing. Other Portland healers have included Harry Thompson and John G. Lake. Lake had over 100,000 documented healings in the Spokane area - so many they had to close a hospital there and the Surgeon General of the U.S. said Spokane was the healthiest city in the U.S. as a result of his ministry. There was no count of the number of Portland healings from him when he lived here.

Ever Increasing Faith by Smith Wigglesworth ($5.50)

A classic from 1924, now reprinted, that teaches some of the secrets of healing with prayer. Wigglesworth was a simple plumber and then went on to have miraculous results with worldwide travel. He even came through Portland here. His basic philosophy of his success was simple - always claim it in faith in the name of Jesus. Over a million copies sold by the time my 1971 edition was printed.

If You Will Ask: Reflections on the Power of Prayer by Oswald Chambers ($7.99)

This is another classic from 1958 and now reprnted. My copy was reprinted by the Billy Graham Association. Like Wigglesworth, you see the leaders in in personal healing (and even those leading city transformations) are humble and child-like in their faith.

The Metabolic Plan by Stephen Cherniske, M.S. ($10.17)

I’m not sure where Cherniske’s faith is, but this book was gifted to me this year and is really astonishing. Medical doctors in the U.S. generally have little training in natural healing. Our bodies were designed by God and were designed for a hunter-gatherer society in which the diet had lots of unprocessed and fresh fruit and vegetables. We live now in cities and eat food stripped of the nutrients that the body was designed to need. The body has to build 300 billion new cells every day, and the body doesn’t get what it needs to do that. As a result, the brain starts telling the body that we are choosing to shut it down. Cherniske tells how to reverse that. Cherniske is a nutritional biochemist and directed the nation’s first FDA-licensed clinical laboratory specializing in nutrition testing, advised the U.S. Olympic team, and is well known for his research. This book, however, is written for a layperson’s knowledge level (for the most part). Some of his insights, such as on DHEA, will surprise you. (Don’t jump to conclusions here - too much is as bad or worse than too little of many nutrients and harmones.)
