Introduction to Research

by Carl Townsend

The specific goal of spiritual research is always evangelism.

The purpose research is to gain information about a region for the renewal, revival, and evangelization of the region. If you look at the ministry of Daniel, Ezra, Nehemiah, and others you will see that this mapping involves three types of information:

  1. What has happened in the past? What is God's perspective on this? Israel had broken covenants and failed to claim promises. This is how the nation got where it was at the time these leaders lived. What have been the trends? What paradigm do people act out of and why?

  2. What is the present status of the region? What is God's perspective on this? Where is the battleline drawn today in the region?

  3. What is the future (vision), and how do we get there? What are the steps of obedience, or paths to restoration, for the current generation? What is the revelation about the purpose of the region among the nations? What brings hope to the present? What warnings of danger is there for what lies ahead? As we gain reconciliation, we may find this vision written somewhere (see 2 Kings 22,23).

In getting this knowledge, we must be sure it is accurate and complete (discerned within the proper context). Satan's only weapons are accusation and deception. Both depend upon absent or distorted information. Spiritual warfare is often launched by the Enemy to prevent truth (information) from being revealed.

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge."
